he history
of the GRÄFE UND UNZER VERLAG begins with a bookshop established
in 1722 in the city of Königsberg, which under the name "Haus
der Bücher" (House of Books) became Europe's biggest
bookshop in the late 1920s. After World War II the company moved
to Bavaria, where it was turned into a modern guide publisher
in the 1960s. Since 1990, the Munich based publishing house has
been part of the Ganske Verlagsgruppe.
Today, the GRÄFE UND UNZER VERLAG is one of the Europe's
leading publishers of guidebooks offering advice on the subject
areas Cooking & Indulgence, Body & Soul, Partnership &
Family, Life & Learning, Home & Garden. The GRÄFE
UND UNZER products feature clear editorial concepts which are
implemented by constantly high quality standards and optimal user-friendliness.
To address various target groups as precisely as possible the
publishing house applies different brands like GU, TEUBNER and
HALLWAG, which are well established among the consumers. The market-leading
guidebook brand GU is considered as benchmark: its most successful
products are especially cookbooks like "Basic Cooking"
or the "Ratgeber Gesundheit" (guidebooks for a healthy
living).
As of spring 2007 the publishing house issues books under the
label "Gräfe und Unzer", where authors and topics
are published irrespective of form and genre. The main focus lies
on guidebooks and non-fiction books, which are for one thing affected
by the personality of the author or by an entity and for another
thing have also a high-quality binding.
Parallel to these innovative products GRÄFE UND UNZER focuses
on new marketing and communication instruments to increase customer
proximity and dialogue, using customer magazines like "Balance"
and "Kochgenuss" (Cooking Pleasure), the dialogue via
websites or the GU quality guarantee: Every customer has the right
to exchange faulty products. |
